Life Gave me A Bed of Roses (Villanelle)

Life gave me a bed of roses,

After one long winters night,

All I’ve seen before, it opposes.

Door after door, before, it all closes.

When the stars aligned just right,

Life gave me a bed of roses.

All the melodies true love composes

Bring with a warmth of light.

All I’ve seen before, it opposes.

All my fragile heart knows is,

To say one day, I hoped I might,

“Life gave me a bed of roses.”

So much fear my mind exposes,

Now, that, the world is finally bright.

All I’ve seen before, it opposes.

Gallant, honourable, it juxtaposes,

All the clowns masquerading knights.

Life gave me a bed of roses,

All I’ve seen before, it opposes.
